New Jersey’s traditional colonial home style originates from Dutch colonial settlers that incorporated the use of indigenous stone and slate, pitched roofs and other traditional colonial design elements. Beginning in approximately 1630, Dutch settlers moved to what is now Englewood, New Jersey and built small, one room cottages with stone walls and steep roofs to allow a second story loft. By the 1670’s, settlers began to build two-story gable-ended homes, better described as homes with triangular pitched roofs. Over the centuries, this style of the pitched roof, strong symmetry and use of local stones evolved to what is known today as the Stone Manor colonial Estate

The English manor style shutters and grilled windows seen on the estate are also common details of a traditional colonial home and capture the spirit of the colonial era. In the center portion of the roof of the Stone Manor sit 3 pediment dormer windows. Rooftop dormer windows feature three decorative triangular gables over three square windows; another style indicative of traditional Center hall colonial architecture. The flower-bordered stone walkway leading up to the stone-faced entry adds another old world element to the Stone Manor estate.
